Disaster Preparedness

Unlike Schwarzenegger, who vetoed flood protection legislation, Phil Angelides will ensure that our communities are prepared for a natural or manmade disaster, and that all of our first responders are equipped to respond quickly, decisively and effectively to protect the public.

• Flood Control: To provide adequate protection for all communities, the federal government and California have to invest in upgrading the existing flood control system, both to protect communities and taxpayers. Phil supports Proposition 1E on the November ballot which will provide $4 billion for flood control and disaster preparedness.  Click here to read Phil’s op-ed on flood control.
• Fire Prevention: The devastating firestorm of 2003 revealed critical needs in first responder equipment, staffing and communications. As Governor, Phil Angelides will stand together with firefighters throughout California to fully implement the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Fire Commission, which offered a comprehensive roadmap toward a more fire safe California.
• Preparation for Response to Terrorism: Phil Angelides will work to provide comprehensive, fully funded preparedness training for all of our first responders, and ensure they are equipped to respond quickly, decisively and effectively to protect the public.
